Why do we use Google? People use Google to type in some word they dont know how to spell, then usually Google gives you the correct spelling/s. Others use it to find information on a certain subject or item of sort. Google lets customize the homepage so you can make how you want. Google is different from other websites. It shoes almost everything possible for what you have typed in. It can display pictures, videos, maps, new, and its web pages. In my opinion, Google is a good resource to look up important things.
But is it too powerful? In other words, does Google have too much influence when it is the place we go to in order to make sense out of our life? Think of the last time you went somewhere. Who did you ask? Probably went to Google Maps. Think of the last time you checked your e-mail. Probably G-mail, right? Who owns the largest Blog site and Blog Reading program? Who owns the largest blog feed organizer? Google again.
When the United States is afraid to take on China, Google is doing just that. In other words, Google is stronger diplomatically than the most powerful nation in the world. Do we want any company, even a good company like Google, to have that much power?

my perspective of google it that it will eventually build robots that will turn eveil and then become the leader of all human here on earth. :) I mean google is SUPER RICH. EVERY SINGLE AD On THE WEB in small letter Says "ads by Google" or Powered By google. Android Os is So FREAKING Cool And There Is A Sh*t load of new phones coming out with it . and Now that they have the NExus One, That No Store Is Selling. I defintly see them and the RULERS of earth in a few year. Tell your student that hes not the only one that thinks google is powerfull sometimes TOO powerfull
Interesting post, especially regarding the political issues. We've recently begun using Google Apps and just discussed this in our class the other day.
